Stuff made for Christmas 2008.<\/em><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Managed to make “something completely different” this year … actually a couple somethings.\u00a0 Made a marble lift toy with moving parts, and figured out how to put an image onto a t-shirt.\u00a0 And made the usual sorts of stuff, too,\u00a0 along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The dated ornament for this year is another painted effort. It’s about 4-inches high and is made out of 1\/8-inch Baltic birch plywood, painted with various colours.\u00a0 I gotta start making simpler ornaments \u2026 all that painting gets tedious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a fretwork cat done in 7\/8-inch mahogany and finished in Danish oil.\u00a0 I ended up making several of these in varying sizes and of varying materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dog and cat done in 1-1\/2 inch pine.\u00a0 I love the expressions on their faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sea monster attacking a ship.\u00a0 Done in 3\/4-inch poplar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Soaring eagle multi-piece fretwork.\u00a0 Ended up making this twice, because the first one sort of disintegrated due to internal stresses getting released when cutting the fine fretwork.\u00a0 Even the final one ended up getting patched at one point.\u00a0\u00a0 But it sure ended up looking nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An intricate fretwork welcome sign, done in 1-1\/2 inch pine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intarsia wolf head.\u00a0 Done in poplar, with the individual pieces stained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would Christmas be without a puzzle to torment the recipient?\u00a0 This one is a welsh dragon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Another puzzle … something a little different this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Something rather different … a t-shirt with Mr. Fumblethumbs proudly displayed.\u00a0 However, I’m not sure that the recipients have ever actually worn it … can’t imagine why not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OK, now this is REALLY different.\u00a0 Turn the handle and the marbles move up the steps then roll down and the whole process starts over.\u00a0 Challenging to make, and few people can resist playing with it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
