Making a stand for the Playbook.

I recently got a BlackBerry Playbook, and quite like it.  However, I decided that it would be really nice to be able to prop it up on my desk.  So I looked around the shop and found a scrap of 1×2 pine, made a few measurements, and started cutting.  The first attempt had 2 notches, each a a different angle.  Cut the notches with a scrollsaw, as that was fast & easy.

After using it for a bit I found that one of the angles was the best for me.  Also found that the scrollsawed notches were a bit rough.  So I made another set, shorter (4-1/2 inches), and cut with a dado blade on the table saw.  Actually made 2 sets … figured that I may as well given the setup time involved.

Waiting for Santa Claws.

Me and Eddie chillin’ in The Tree, waiting for Santa Claws.

We is being patient.  The Elder Cat tells us that Santa Claws brings treats and piles of crinkly paper to play in.  We likes our crinkly paper!

X-ray of Gritz’s bad tooth.

Here’s an x-ray showing my bad tooth from November 2011.  Notice that the roots of the tooth on the far left have sort of melted away!  The technical term is “tooth resorption”, and it happens for no known reason.

I was much happier after it was extracted!

Gritz : post-surgery report

Here’s a photo of my legs showing where they got shaved for the dental surgery.  I rather like the fashionable yet edgy look they give me, but they’re a bit itchy.  Oh, how I suffer for my fans!

In memorium : Spooky

It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of Spooky, age 13, due to cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer 5 months ago, and the vet suggested that she had perhaps a month left to live. Always a cat of firm opinion, Spooky decided that it was not yet her time, and hung on as long as she could through sheer will power. This is a picture of her just a few weeks before her passing.

When I took her to the vet for her final trip, it was a glorious sunny day. There was a minor emergency at the clinic that forced us to wait, so she and I spent some time outside. She found the sunshine and new smells quite fascinating, and quite enjoyed the time. I was a blubbering mess. A couple hours later after I had returned home, the skies darkened and there was a tremendous lightning display with lots of thunder. My wife and I agreed that it was Spooky kicking ass in Heaven.

We got Spooky in 1998, and her age was estimated to be 1 year.

She will be sorely missed.
